OpenStack is an Open Source (OS) cloud computing software platform that is available free of charge. It is traditionally utilised as an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution. The OpenStack Superuser Awards were established in 2014 and recognise companies and other organisations that have leveraged OpenStack to enhance their businesses and have at same time contributed to their communities. The award’s previous winners include major companies like AT&T, Comcast and NTT Group.
"UKCloud is helping the UK government innovate with an assured cloud platform that supports services including online tax returns and genomic data analytics amongst many other key citizen facing applications,” explained the OpenStack Foundation’s Executive Director, Jonathan Bryce. “With a cloud-first strategy and a commitment to open standards built on technologies like OpenStack, the UK government has saved £600 million and earned recognition from the United Nations as the most digitally advanced government in the world. This Superuser Award presented to UKCloud is an ideal reflection of the power of OpenStack to transform IT."
