According to global commercial real estate company CBRE, the United Kingdom capital is spearheading the expansion in top data centre markets in Europe.

CBRE, which has global headquarters in Los Angeles, California, United States, is listed on both the Fortune 500 and S&P 500, and in 2016 it was the highest-ranking company in the Fortune 500 estate sector. Its services include property management and property sales, and with a dedicated ‘Data Centre Solutions’ arm it has extensive data centre experience. According to the company the data centre boom started in 2016.

CBRE highlights growth in four European data centre markets – London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Paris. A continuation of record growth of up to nearly 160MW last year, in the first quarter of 2017 the greatest amount of data centre capacity was leased in London..

“London was responsible for the majority of take-up activity with 17.5MW of IT power transacted in the UK capital during Q1,” explained a CBRE representative. “A significant portion of this was a continuation of the wave of demand that swept through Europe last year.”
