European Telecom Company Deutsche Telekom Considers Acquiring Web Host Host Europe

18 June 2016

A report from the Reuters news agency has suggested European telecom company Deutsche Telekom is considering acquiring web host Host Europe Group (Host Europe). Deutsche Telekom, which has headquarters in Bonn, Germany, was established in 1995. The company is involved in a range of activities and its potential purchase of Host Europe would be intended to strengthen its cloud capabilities.

Host Europe has headquarters in Hayes, Middlesex, United Kingdom and offers a range of services. These extend to cloud, managed and reseller hosting alongside dedicated server and domain name registration options. The company is recognised as “Europe’s largest privately owned hosting provider”, the largest domain registrar in the UK, and also largest provider of managed hosting in Germany. It caters to in excess of 1.7 million customers.

If the acquisition goes ahead, the purchase will be made through Deutsche Telekom’s Strati web hosting subsidiary. According to the report, the company is currently working with private equity firms in the United States in a bid to fund the acquisition. Deutsche Telekom bought Strati in 2009 for 275 million euros (218.18 million pounds). It has headquarters in Berlin, Germany and predominantly caters to small and medium-sized businesses, earning around 30 million euros (23.8 million pounds) annually.
