10 February 2017

Data centre company Equinix, Inc. (Equinix) has bought iO UK’s Slough-based data centre business. With head offices in Redwood City, California, United States, Equinix has an extensive network of ‘carrier-neutral’ data centres and offers a full suite of Internet services including enterprise and cloud solutions. IO UK’s data centre will be renamed ‘LD10’ when the acquisition is complete. With a contract signed January 7, 2017, the acquisition was finalised February 3, 2017.

LD10 is close to a data centre campus that is also located in Slough which also belongs to Equinix. The acquisition is intended to enable Equinix to better meet growing demand for digital infrastructure connectivity within the United Kingdom and with Europe. IO UK has shown solid financial performance, generating approximately $1.4 million in revenues in the 2015 financial year. Financial details of the acquisition have not though been released.

“London remains a global economic engine, with leading enterprises and cloud service providers making it a primary hub for IT infrastructure,” explained an Equinix press release. “Adding additional interconnection and capacity in this market enables local and international customers to leverage Platform Equinix to meet their changing business needs – whether that is to connect to networks, clouds, or financial markets – Equinix is the place to be.”
